Urban India, with 28% of India’s population, estimated to generate about 144,000 tons/day of municipal solid waste (MSW), imposes huge demand on scarce land resources with the prevalent practice of dumping on land. Further, absence of source segregation system renders waste in a mixed condition that is not readily available for processing by conventional technologies.
UIPC undertakes project development of both road and rail based transportation systems. In order to take a focused position, UIPC along with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India has set up the Urban Mass Transit Company, which is presently engaged in developing various urban multi-modal transportation and related projects. UIPC has also entered into a strategic Memorandum of Agreement with the Indore City Transport Services Limited for carrying forward the successful model of the Indore example to other cities.
